The Avanzando Learning Community is now accepting students for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Avanzando Learning Community is a one-year program that allows students to gain additional support while enrolled in English and Math classes designated for the program. Our goal is to help STEM students:
- Transition to Santa Rosa Junior College
- Learn about careers in STEM
- Complete transfer-level Math and English in the first year of college
- Transfer and enroll in a four-year college or university after SRJC
PROGRAM BENEFITS

- Guaranteed English and Math courses while in the Learning Community
- No-cost textbooks for Math and English while in the program
- Possible stipend opportunity
- Assistance with getting started, selecting classes, and registration
- Designated STEM Counselor
- Local college field trips and cultural events
- University and college transfer preparation
1. Be a first-generation college student (students are classified as first-generation if neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher)
2. Must be willing to attend 1 mandatory orientation each semester
3. Must be willing to meet with the Avanzando counselor twice a semester
4. Must be interested in pursuing a major/ career in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)
5. Must be willing to enroll in English 1A, Math 25, and Counseling 60 for the Fall semester
